A New Day

As the sky wears the jet cloak of the vesper,

Millions of stars shimmering overhead,
He sits at his window, waiting.
He waits for the dump truck to come,
To relieve him of this unwanted existence,
This unwanted life.
He waits for the pain to end,
To cease, to leave him an empty shell
Devoid of all feeling,
Devoid of all thought,
Devoid of agony.
He sits at the window, waiting.

An owl hoots in the dead of night,
A mournful tone mirroring his thoughts.
He fingers the midnight dagger by his side,
Feeling the smooth, cool metal of the blade,
Colder than ice,
Colder than death.
He feels the peak of the silver mountain,
Pricks his skin in anticipation.

As his finger reddens with blood,
The sky begins to lighten,
A tapestry of light,
Reds, yellows, purples,
Diffuse across the sky
In a show of color.

He lets the dagger drop from his grasp,
The sparkle of the blade losing its allure
As the birds of the sun
Begin their daily song.
He glances up at the rainbow,
Listening to the joy of the morn.
He rises from the room of Shadows,
Never once looking back,
Ready to embark on
A new day.
A new life.
A new world.

Totally rough poem I wrote yesterday at like 1am in about 10 minutes. Minimal editing and such; still figured I'd post it up here as a break from all the pictures due to the 30 day challenge. =P
